This event is held annually in July to raise funds for cancer research and to support the development of youth football in the community.
It is dedicated to Sharon Wood who gave much of her time helping the club succeed in where it is today. The tournament is always a great success. Each year it surpasses the expectations of the previous. Approximately 100 teams participate in over 220 matches on 14 pitches
Over 1000 youngsters/ladies take part trying to win one of the 120 trophy’s and every square inch of the Wendron site was utilised.
Carparking was provided in surrounding fields by kind permission of local farmers.
100+ teams from all over Devon and Cornwall descend on Wendron Football Club for what is now the leading one-day tournament of its kind in the South West.
The day raises more than £6000, this has been divided equally between the club and cancer research. All winners were presented with medals and Trophy’s
The standard of football is excellent and the support from parents, coaches and organisers is a credit to those connected with youth football.
A special mention of thanks must go to those volunteers who make the day possible. In particular the vision and desire of tournament organisers Treve Matthews and Peter Thorne and their team of many volunteers, too numerous to mention.
Lets also not forget the referees who also give up their time. They have to officiate in 200 between the hours of 9.30am to 6.0pm when the last final is usually played.
This tournament requires early preparation and so parents and potential sponsors are requested to make themselves known to one of the following people:
